Married Couples Q&A – How to Approach a Girl…

Post 156 of 182

I attend the Itaewon campus of New Philadelphia Church in Seoul, Korea (www.newphilly.cc). In May we had a Married Couples Q&A time after church with four married couples answering questions from the audience. A number of church members from other campuses have requested the video feed, but it was a bit long (90 minutes) and too difficult to be uploaded all in one chunk. So instead I’m going to post some clips from the night now and then on this blog. To access all the blogs with video clips, on the left side of the blog page are “Categories.” You can select “Marriage” to see all my posts on marriage, and they will eventually include all the video clips from the Q&A time.

This clip is actually the last sharing portion of the night where each person shared their last words of advice to the singles. My sharing started at 9:15 and goes to the end of the video. I mainly spoke about how a guy should approach a girl about asking her on a date. As for the mentioned dating protocol, our church really encourages accountability for relationships. Thanks to the accountability in our church, all the married couples are very healthy and strong. God is good!

My hope is that what I shared was elementary for you. I’ve just been shocked by how many guys, Christian and non-Christian, don’t have much wisdom in approaching girls. Pickup lines, awkward approaches, unclear messages, unclear boundaries, unclear commitment, and especially foolish/excessive use of social media are rampant in the dating culture of today (if you are texting someone of the opposite sex “sleep well” right before sleep and you guys are “just friends,” then something is likely off). It is always refreshing when I hear of guys being clear and confident in approaching a girl and then giving her space to make a decision. Communication is critical in marriages, and so if communication is unclear or too overwhelming during the pursuit then it is likely going to be a mess in marriage.

Hope these videos are a blessing!
