My Work Here at the Home
Currently I am living in the guest apartment
at the orphanage. I teach elementary and
high school students from the orphanage,
children and mothers from the community
(for outreach by the orphanage), and soon
I will also be tutoring the pastor’s
wife and the dorm parents here at the
home. I am teaching a lot of different
classes with students ranging from not
knowing the ABC’s to being able
to carry basic conversations. Thankfully,
the classes are spread out and I am not
overwhelmed at all. Although I am trying
to be as good a teacher as possible, I
feel a greater call to simply be with
the children and show them love. I quickly
learned their names by taking pictures
of all of them (82 kids), labeling the
pictures, and then praying for each of
them. Even now, after knowing their names
for a long time, they still love to quiz
me and smile brightly when I get all their
names right. I only know a few Korean
words, but somehow from just playing with
them, smiling and waving, and eating with
them, they have completely accepted me.
I have begun studying the language and
I intend to study it as long as I am here
in Korea.
